Beaumont Stables – 7 Years

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 12, 2011, 2:51 PM

Update Journal

This is the official yearly update journal for BS.
We will update this every time a year passes at BS, and give a brief re-cap of the previous year and what is expected in the next. We will also keep a log of horse’s current ages, just so no one gets confused.

Competitions

Blackie competed in 5 competitions worldwide, and has racked up an extremely impressive set of ribbons.

Mali, even though she’s still very young, has proven she’s got extreme potential to be a top-class Dressage horse.

Although it has been a rocky ride, Grant and Bullet have formed an incredible competing team and have been to Ireland and OVEC, in Britain, competing this year.

Theyn, even though she’s only been here a year, and Sky have also formed a bond, and are on the same track as Grant and Bullet.

Lolly and Kimber, Richey and Rús and Robin have also been out competing this year.

Youngstock

Catch has been growing rapidly, and is now nearly a stallion. He’s shown great talent over jumps and will be begin his training at the beginning of next year.

Whytt is also growing larger and stronger each day, and shows a similar flair for jumping as Catch, if a little more controlled than his elder counterpart. Next year will be devoted to backing and breaking him in.

Rookie’s quickly becoming one of BS’ trouble-makers, but in a far cuter way than, let’s say, Catch. He’s already been in his first show, and came a respectable 3rd, and is also now best buddies with his fellow foal, Pal. The two are now inseparable.

Pal is growing up a few months behind Rookie, but is nonetheless gorgeous. He is an extremely fine version of the Anglo-Arab, and we anxiously await seeing him grow up. He’s shown his true colors and is known as a very quiet, nervous individual, but we’re sure he’ll grow out of this to some extent in the next few years.

Breedings

BS booked two breedings this year, sure that 2 foals at a time is the most we can handle with limited staff. The first is between Bullet and Flight Angel, a mare we have followed the career of for the past few years, and are sure that they’ll produce a foal that will, quite literally, tear up the track.
We were also blessed with the opportunity to breed a mare of ours to the wonderful Toxic Hailstorm, son of Absint, another horse we have admired and wanted the blood of in a foal at BS.
Both foals are expected early next year.

Retirement/Illnesses

BS have been lucky not to have anything more serious than a few minor coughs this winter. However, Lolly has reached her breaking point vis-à-vis jumping and is therefore only to be used as a flatwork horse from now on. This was discovered during a routine vet check, during which Will discovered a weakness in the tendons in both her forelegs, a fault, no doubt, simply caused by her wild breeding. She was put on box rest for a week to see if they would strengthen, and was only ridden softly for the week after. Kimber jumped her over a relatively small set of jumps the subsequent week, at which point she went to her knees and was lamed in both forelegs. Will confirmed that jumping was straining her too much, and as long as she didn’t jump, she could still compete, but no more show jumping.

Sales/Deaths

BS said goodbye to 4 of our horses this year, simply because it wasn’t felt that we were using them to the best of their abilities.
Juliette, Baca, Admiral and Ali all went to new homes and are doing well.

Arrivals/Purchases

There were no new arrivals, bar the foals, this year. However, we are expecting the transfer of three (possibly four) new staff members at the beginning of our 7th year.
Sebastian (Seb) Fawkes, Aimee-Marie Baxter, and Angelique (Oni) Mathers. All three of them will be Eventing riders, and have been employed at this point to double as grooms and trainers whilst their mounts grow up.
Seb will be pairing up to start training with Catch straight away. Oni with Whytt, and Aimee will have a couple of years to bond with Rookie before she gets to ride him.
We’re undecided what to do with Pal at the moment, and so we’ll give him a year to bond with someone, and then they’ll be his rider.
Kieran O’Coner will be coming to stay at BS for an undetermined period of time next year – in an aim to let him and Grant get to know each other properly. He’ll be a groom and exerciser for his stay.
